From The Bowsprit Guest Book:

We stepped into Bowsprit and just stood in awe.  We were afraid we would get here and it wouldn’t be as great as we had hoped for—but it surpassed all our expectations!!  Beautiful sunrises, lots of sunshine, high waves and moonlight on the water—absolutely beautiful.  To top it off we met some great people on this trip to Maine .  We were spending our 25th wedding anniversary.

If it is hard to leave Bowsprit Cottage after a week, it is even more difficult to part after two weeks.  We’ve had gorgeous weather the whole time and have thoroughly enjoyed the views of the ocean and its wildlife.  Others have expressed the magic and wonder of this place more eloquently than I can, so I will end with a profound thank you to the owners for sharing your Maine coastal paradise.

We have stayed in a lot of cottages on the Maine coast, but this one beats them all for views.  It almost seems a crime to take your eyes off them.   The remnants of Hurricane Ike brought us rain on Sunday, but after that, the weather was beautiful.  We spent Monday watching the surf kicked up by the storm.  And then, after the sun went down and we thought the show was over for the day, up comes a full moon!  Actually, the show is never over, because you hear the surf through the open windows.  Beyond that, the usual things, including lounging on the rocks, books, camera and binoculars in hand.  All that fresh ocean air and sunshine wore me out—most nights I couldn’t keep my eyes open past 8:00.  But that’s OK—that resulted in being up in time to see the sun rise every morning.

Another great vacation on “The Maine Coast”  We had great fall weather this week.  The “Bowsprit” is by far the best place we’ve stayed in Maine.  No pictures could ever explain to someone how great a view this cottage has.  I’ll tell them they just have to come see it for themselves.  I’m already looking forward to our next vacation at the Bowsprit.

We discovered Bowsprit on the Internet and were impressed with the Website—however “in person” the cottage and its perch above the sea was even more spectacular than we had imagined.  How restful and beautiful.

Our three children enjoyed Sea Beach and Little River especially, both only a short walk from the house.  Many osprey, seal, and porpoises sightings during the week.  The perennial garden outside the kitchen window is another lovely touch—thank you for that.  Columbine, daisies, geranium, coral bells, buttercup, forget-me-nots & Siberian iris all in bloom.   Thanks for the great place and your willingness to share it with others.

Wow!   I found Bowsprit on the internet when looking for a place on the ocean.  I wanted to hear the waves at night and enjoy the beauty of the ocean in the day. This place is perfect!  When looking for a peaceful respite from the real world, how could there be a better place!

I have been under a great deal of stress at work—and will be right back into it when I return, but when we arrived at Bowsprit I exhaled.  I have never known such peace and serenity…   Bowsprit is as beautiful on a cloudy, rainy day as it is on a clear sunny day.

Bowsprit is magical!  Thanks so much for sharing with us...

...A week where every moment was surrounded by--actually, where every moment was "peace."

Thank you for another glorious vacation in the most perfect setting imaginable.  It is very hard to leave.

Thank you for sharing your home and letting us fully experience the Maine coast and the ever changing beauty of the ocean.  Mother Nature gave us natural fireworks followed by a stunning rainbow.  While grilling one evening an osprey landed in the trees out back.

From the power of the ocean from the front windows to the beauty of the flower garden or simply walking on the beach, reading, or flying a kite... it was a totally relaxing week.

Wow!  This cottage must have THE VIEW of the whole area....  I'm trying to teach myself watercolor and my friend is a landscape artist--so we were truly inspired.  You have a beautiful cottage with lovely art work and a wonderful comfortable atmosphere. We felt right at home here...

P.S.  It's easy to tell this cottage has been loved and lovingly cared for.

I loved every minute ~ even the fog.  There always seems to be something new to watch out your panoramic windows.  We were lucky to see a family of dolphins one morning and lots of birds.

We were so amazed at the beauty of this cottage when we first came in!  The scenery is none like we've ever seen.  Every morning we got a visit from a seal swimming by.  When we were fishing he just stayed and watched us from a safe distance.

The most wonderful thing that happened which we will always remember--we got married on the white rock at the end of the natural path to the ocean.  We were married on the 4th of July at sunset and watched fireworks on each side of the cottage.  What an experience!!!!

Scurrying around this morning--it is hard to leave! This has been the most glorious vacation we have known!  The moment we first came down the driveway, we knew that the sense of the perfect setting for our first  anniversary  was totally accurate. And after stepping inside, we were totally enchanted!

The sense of awe and relaxation kept us happy to stay right here. I think perhaps a person needs to have a two week stay -- it takes one week just to absorb the reality of the surroundings.

Thank you for sharing this special place.  We will  be sustained through many hours of the work-a-day world by the thought of coming back next summer.

P.S.  The garden was exquisite!

Thank you so much for sharing your special cottage!  The beauty of the coastline was spectacular and each time I looked I seemed to see something wonderfully different that I had not seen before.  The weather was good.  Sunny days, foggy mornings, and we were treated to a few lightning shows off in the distance.

We enjoyed spotting seals.  We also saw numerous porpoise families swimming just off the property. Fishing off the rocks was a lot of fun. We also enjoyed  shopping in Bath and Boothbay Harbor.

We had a truly wonderful week in this beautiful home by (on!) the sea. All four of us were constantly awed by the views overlooking the ocean from the windows in the dining and living  areas.  And it was so great to be lulled to sleep by the crash of the waves on the rocks below.  Speaking of the rocks, what a little boys' paradise!

Summer's Sunset.  I have spent two wonderful weeks reveling in the  solitude and rapture of crashing waves, caressing winds and screeching seagulls.

How can I ever leave?

Rebecca,  Cold Spring  NY  August, 2005

Beautiful week in a beautiful cottage…  Wildlife and waves were the theme for the week.  Three porpoises sighted.  Each day at 4 o’clock on the button a harbor seal would stick his head out of the water (right in front) for 15-30 seconds and he would be gone ‘til the next day, same time—must have a strict schedule to stick to.  We saw several deer, osprey, eider ducks, hundreds of fish jumping all the way out of the water, cormorants, cardinals, hummingbirds, lots of cedar wax wings, pileated woodpeckers, egrets, great blue herons, starfish, several seagull species, goldfinches, juncos, chipmunks, evening mosquitoes L and crabs.  Hurricane Florence was 500 miles out to sea but set us up for the most exciting part of the stay.  Let’s just say that high tide was very high and low tide was too. This is not an exaggeration – 10-15 foot breakers were crashing high up on the rocks. Absolutely stunning!

As my husband and 2 sons and I drove along Loop Rd, we were getting more & more excited to see the ocean.  Bits and pieces, as we drove through, giggling to what was in store. As we got closer, we found Bowsprit.  "Yay!" from the backseat!  When I got out of the car, I almost forgot to open the doors to my boys!  The ocean!  The waves! The blessed noise of crashing waves!  What fun!
